Back From the Country

Hello everyone,

It's been 2 days since I've left for the country side of New South Wales from the bustling city life. It was an excruciating trip but the view was absolutely breathtaking. This trip began at 0800 hrs on the 19th November 2008 at Kingsford McDonalds. I had to wake up at 0600 to make it there on time. Lack of beauty sleep = PMS like a bitch. I felt a bit sick but after a sausage McMuffin and hot tea, I felt better. We didn't meet up until 0830 hrs. 5 of us were shoved into a Volkswagen golf. Such a petite car. I seized the opportunity to catch up on my sleep deficit so I passed out cold for the next 4 hours. By the time I had awoken up, we were about to enter a small town. I was back to my jovial self again. We had a deliberation about what we were going to have for lunch. The massive billboards advertising for the various fast food outlets made the decision harder. It wasn't until we saw the Hungry Jacks (Aussie version of Burger King) billboard that we had a unanimous vote. Lunch never felt so good! I had a Whopper meal. The other 2 guys ordered the Aussie Burger and a huge meat-stuffed burger while the girls didn't eat. I was given the largest amount of fries and we were hypothesizing why that was so. I concluded that it was because of my charming smile and a lovely personality. It must have convinced the young male manager to give me more.

We were on our way after that to Orange. The plan was to go Cherry picking but when we reached Orange's Visitor Information Centre, we found out that Cherries weren't ready for picking for another 3 weeks. We were given a map of the local attractions to give it a shot anyways. We decided to go to the Hurstberry Farm to pick strawberries instead since Angeline gave them a call in the morning and they did say they were opened for picking but after driving in circles and finally locating the place, we discovered that they were closed. We tried calling them again but this time, no one picked up. We were seriously peeved off by it and swore to boycott their products. It was quite a funny experience now that I think about it. Unphased, we went on to look at the other attractions around. We went to visit a few vineyards but sadly out of the 3 we were trying to get to, only the last one was open. The owner of the vineyard gave us a personal wine tasting session of his products. The view from the top of the vineyard where the wine tasting was held was magnificent. We saw roaming fields of green with neatly arranged grape vines on one side and cherry trees with unripe green fruit on the other. The distant hills were shrouded in clouds as we were sprinkled in light rain. Out of all the wine I tasted at the vineyard, I was most taken by the Cherry Liqueur and the Cherry Port. The cherry port lacked maturity but in a few years it'd be wonderful. All of us placed our order together to buy a case. It totalled to AUD $100 for 5 Cherry Liqueurs and 1 Cherry Port. It was quite a bargain. I was the first one to go red from the wine tasting. I would acclaim this embarrassing phenomenon to my fair complexion and good circulation. ; )

It was getting late and we headed for the town of Oberon as that was where our accommodation would be. We had to settle dinner soon as it was almost 1700 hrs. We went to the local tavern to get dinner. I had a sirloin steak which costs $10. It was ... alright for $10. We went to the motor inn which wasn't as far as we thought it'd be. It looked pretty crummy on the outside but when we went in, it was a really cozy little cottage. Everything looked new. The parquet floors were spotless. I did have a strong inkling however that this entire "shack" was bought from Ikea and just tied to the ground. It was cheap and cozy which was perfect as it was raining rather heavily outside.

We got up to leave at 0900 hrs if we were to reach the Jenolan Caves and the Blue Mountains on time. We had cake for breakfast. Angeline had made it before we left Sydney. I fell asleep in the car on the way to the caves again. The usual cycle was to wake up, laugh a bit and then go back to sleep. We reached the caves at 1000 hrs. We made it just in time for the tour to the Temple of Baal at 1015 hrs. It was quite a nice tour of the caves. We saw the angel's wing which was rather magnificent. Even though it looks flimsy, it is actually solid rock. The cave was spectacular but we couldn't leave the caves from 1145 hrs to 1315 hrs so we just sat at the cafe eating the overpriced food. I bought a souvenir coin for $2 with the imprint of the Lucas cave on it. We finally got to leave and headed for Katoomba. We stopped along the way to look at the view. It was pretty nice. We got to see a waterfall but it was a bit disappointing as it was somewhat pathetic.
We went on to Katoomba for lunch. We went to a very quaint cafe. I had a kangaroo rump steak with mushroom sauce. It was absolutely wonderful. It took quite a while to prepare though. By the time we were done with lunch, it was 1600 hrs. We made a move towards the Blue Mountains. We arrived at 1650 hrs. We had less than 10 mins to leave before we'd have to pay for parking. We got to see the 3 sister peaks and camwhore there for a bit. It was full of tourists.

We left and went to Gordon Falls. It was already raining and alot more disappointing than the previous one. It was like a piss stream. As a consolation, we spotted a huge rainbow over the hills. We immediately took out our cameras and tried to capture it.
We left the Blue Mountains and headed back for Sydney. Stopped by Paramatta for dinner at Temasek Restaurant which served Singaporean and Malaysian cuisine. It was really good. By the time we got back to Sydney it was already late. We had a long tour of the Westfield carpark. It took us half an hour of going round the 6 floors of parking lots to finally secure a spot. We exuded an aura of victory as we strolled around the shopping centre while waiting for time to pass as our dinner reservation was at 2015 hrs. We went to look at the clothing shops. Went to Glue to look at their G-Star Raw jeans. That brand is nice. Dinner was good, got back home around 2300 hrs. Was pooped out and had an early night.

Woke up and caught up on the blog entries by Kevin. I was quite surprised by the changes that have happened in the 2 days I haven't been around. Had a pretty bad headache so I didn't really do much. Went into hibernation for a long time. Really wasn't much to do. University will be starting again next week. Such a bummer...

That's all for now. I hope my blog post has been coherent since I've been typing this while watching Harry Potter, The Goblet of Fire. Cedric Diggory is quite hot :P

Lurbs yew long time,
Jo
